Tanker truck explodes in Everett, engulfing nearby buildings in flame

EVERETT -- The driver of a gasoline tanker truck that crashed this morning and caused an explosion that ignited a massive fire was cited for speeding by State Police.

State Police Major Kevin Kelly said that a witness saw the truck driving at an excessive rate of speed through Sweetser traffic circle at 1 a.m. The operator lost control and the tanker slid on its side, puncturing its hull containing 9,400 gallons of gasoline, which ignited and spilled like a river of fire onto Main Street....

....The flames ignited three residential buildings and some 40 vehicles. More than 145 people had to be evacuated from nearby homes, which included an elderly housing complex....
