Troopers issue 138 tickets during seat-belt enforcement

5 posts in this topic

SOMERS - State police issued more than 100 tickets -most of them for not wearing a seat belt -during a six-hour road check yesterday on Route 35, Sgt. Joseph Lutz said today.

The effort kicks off a two-week focus by state and local police on seat-belt enforcement, speeding and aggressive driving.

Of the 138 tickets that troopers issued yesterday from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., 87 were for seat-belt violations and the rest for various violations of the vehicle and traffic law, said Lutz, station commander of the Somers barracks.

One vehicle was towed due to 11 active suspensions against the driver. All of the tickets issued are returnable to Somers Town Court by Dec. 3, police said

Do you wear your seatbelt? if no, why not? i know there are too many civilians who don't wear their belts, but there are also many ES workers who also do not wear belts...pretty stupid, huh?

Here's something radical. How about no benefits if you are not wearing your seatbelt during an accident. We all know better, and many of us will go out our way to turn off that annoying seatbelt warning every time we get into our vehicle.

When in Orange County on State Route 17 between Chester & Middletown, be on the look out for 2F89. He is a Highway Task Force Unit or whatever they call it and he writes more tickets than anyone will ever know. He has even stopped FD & EMS vehicles for speeding.
