Family sues, saying Mt. Sinai Hospital neglected Yonkers firefighter who died

The family of Kevin Deane announced a civil lawsuit against Mount Sinai Hospital today, following the April death of the Yonkers firefighter, who died a week after a skiing accident in Colorado.

The hospital was cited Wednesday by the state Health Department, whose investigation found staff failed in caring for Deane, who died choking on his blood.

The family's lawyer Steven Samuel said Deane's death "was preventable had he only received the care the family thought he was going to receive," adding that the hospital's inadequate medical attention to Deane shows "reckless disregard for this human life."

The lawsuit does not specify damages sought and was filed in New York County Supreme Court.
