(Original publication: October 16, 2007)

WHITE PLAINS - A new headquarters for the Westchester Department of Public Safety and a high-tech laboratory to diagnose infectious diseases are among the projects called for in the county's proposed $105 million capital budget for 2008............

Of the total $105 million called for in the 2008 budget, $58 million is allocated to just nine construction projects, officials said. Among the largest are $9 million for a new Department of Public Safety headquarters in Valhalla and another $9 million to rehabilitate the Department of Emergency Services' main facility, also in Valhalla, to include, among other things, new training facilities for firefighters.

Would this new WCPD Headquarters be relocated from Hawthorne, or supplement Hawthorne? I know for a while there they were talking about building an "Executive Building" for WCPD, AKA Public Safety, on the Grasslands reservation.

Also, I hope the money for WCDES includes funding to give 60 Control a new, expanded, modern facility.

9 million to build a whole new building? Is that really enough? I guess for the "Police" it is. And another 9 million to renovate and make things better at the already existing "Fire and Emergency Services"???? Guess we know who is more politically connected!
