What Do You Shoot With?

11 posts in this topic

If you are like I' am, you are very specific about what kind of equipment you shoot with in different situations...so...what kind of equipment do you shoot with, and what is your prefered brand?

I shoot with a Nikon D70s DSLR with a f/1.4 AF Nikkor and SB-600 Speedlight for my night shots...and for my day shots...same camera but either with a f/4 28-80mm AF Nikkor or an f/5.6 70-300mm AF Nikkor... As you can see I'am a "Nikon man".

Well, I love the Nikon Digital SLR's, but my wallet does not. It will be the camera of choice when i can afford it. My every day camera is an HP Photosmart 415. its ok for goofing around, and catching random photos, but sometimes its a pain. It takes a while in between shots, and can be tricky to steady. it also runs on aa batteries... My Real camera is a Canon AE-1, that i love to death. it used to belong to my father, and is just about as old as me. I have just about 8 different lenses for it, and it always takes AMAZING photos, no matter what the conditions. Since it was and most likely still is expensive however, i don;t usually bring it out with me unless i'm going somewhere special, with the intention of taking shots, like a family gathering, wedding, etc. The only other drawback to using it is its still a 35 MM "Film dependent" relic.

I like that flash...I don't have a speed flash yet, but want one with the indirect lighting feature!

I use a Canon Dig Rebel (x901) with either the standard 18-55 lens or the 70-300 efs digital image stabilization lens. I have a moderate complement of filters, such as stars, UV Haze, Circular Polarizer...getting colored ones this weekend. Have a tripod (can't recall the name) goes from 18 inches to 6 feet using 3 different lengthening zones. Also have a lens hood fully encompassing. 2 batteries, 4 CF memory cards ranging from 128 mb to 4 gig. Backup system is an ancient HP735 dig, with SD cards up the wazoo! I have 3 other devices that utilize that technology for viewing purposes. As well have a Sony Digi Handycam with 30 GB HD... Use Microsoft digital imaging suite, windows movie maker for processing. Also now have a dedicated photo lap top that goes along with...getting wireless card (Verizon) to begin uploads from the field.

Too funny Chris...and don't worry brother...we've known each other long enough that I know your kidding.

I currently shoot with an "old" Olympus OM-10 that used to belong to my grandfather. Prior to acquiring that, it was a borrowed Yashica of Mom's. Not sure which I like(d) better. Both do what I need them to nicely enough.

Everywhere I go, I keep getting asked, "When are you going to go digital?". Well, it's not much of an exaggeration to say that if I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I could probably afford to. But, I just can't bring myself to blow the kind of coin that the camera I want costs, only to risk having it get drenched at the first wetdown it went to. Seeing that happen to an acquaintance of mine a couple of years back didn't help matters much.

I've been given more than one subtle hint that I "might" be getting a dig for Christmas. Goes without saying that it won't be the one I want, but I guess it's a start. Will probably still cart the "old relic" around with me anyway, at least for the first few outings, until I get the hang of the new one (assuming, of course, that it does actually come to be in the first place).
