The Scott Jiggle

4 posts in this topic

OK, I know they're there for our safety, but with that said....

Is anyone else annoyed by the fact they have to jiggle every 20-30 seconds with a Scott Pack to keep the alarm from going off? I know it ensures the PASS will be used, but is the alarm the goes off constantly on the fire scene lessen our awareness of it?

Is there a better way?

I like having the crew look for whos alarm is going off. I haven't seen any complacency yet.

I think more PASS alarms are activated when personnel take them off, put them on the ground, and don't bleed/shut them off. I only notice them activating on members' backs when standing around and not actually working, mostly at drills when the Instructor is giving his lesson and everyone is just standing there. I will say that I don't think complacency is an issue, everytime I hear a PASS going off I notice another handful of guys looking for it too.

It has become second nature for me to "gyrate" my hips pretty much all of the time when I have a pack on.....
