Pascack Valley Hospital in Bergen County, N.J., to close by end of year

6 posts in this topic

It's amazing how populations grow and become more affluent, but more and more community hospitals are closing, especially this hospital located in a very affluent area. Is it not getting enough back from insurance, or poor financial managment? Patient census low? Why?

Pascack Valley Hospital also provides the Paramedics for the VAC's in the area of the hospital, which butts up against Rockland County. Does anyone know who may take that over?

(Original publication: September 20, 2007)

Pascack Valley Hospital will close its doors for good by the end of the year, Vice President John Corcoran said this afternoon.

The hospital has lost $50 million over the past four years and had a projected loss of more than $16 million for 2007. It had been in negotiations to merge with Hackensack University Medical Center, but those talks fell through.

People who have money go to doctors in Manhattan. They also tend to have better preventative health care and are able to go to the hospital on their own schedule as opposed to the closest appropriate.

Does anyone know what's going to happen to their M.I.C.U. program? I wonder if the area will be absorbed by Valley Hopsital?

I am employed by Englewood Hospital & Medical Center in Materials Management (shipping recieving and store room) All employees recieved a head up notice that Pascack Valley will be closing by years end, and that we will be getting doctors and some former staff from PVH. We are also begining to open up more bed space. I heard last week that we have added a 3rd Medic Unit, ALS 203, which is riding out of Dumont Valley.

BTW, Englewood Hospital EMS recieved their 4th BLS unit, a 2007 Ford E-450/AEV Type III mini mod

vodoly,

Pascack Valley also had (2) AEV Type II's sitting in their parking lot, seemingly brand new. What are these units used for? Seems all the hospitals that once ran just the MICU's are now also operating ambulances? Are these back up BLS for the community, or do they do interfacilty transports?

I wonder who these will go to, or maybe they will just be sold. Still shocking that PVH is shutting down, seemed to be running smooth then all of a sudden...
