Car hits work zone flagger, dump truck

September 19, 2007

State police said an elderly woman drove into a Sullivan County work zone today, hit a flagger and crashed into a county dump truck.

The county employee, identified as Glenn Carlsson by a union leader, went by helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment of a leg injury. The woman was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

State police said the woman, described as in her 80s and a resident of the Livingston Manor area, was headed south in a 1999 Audi on Beaver Kill Road/County Route 152 when she passed signs marking the construction zone and hit the flagger. The crash is still under investigation.

This can happen to anyone. It is important that we remeber to set up warning devices and use a firetruck to block lanes because you never know when a little old lady is going to visit your scene.
