NYS Commerical Police?

23 posts in this topic

I was driving home from work today on Rt. 9 and saw a interceptor with a full whelen LED light package with a truck pulled over. I thought it was a new SP car when I passed it it was marked New York State Commerical Police. Can any one give me anymore information on this. I thought it was pretty awsome. I am also wondering where they are out of.

Thanks everyone

I am guessing that what you saw an a NYSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. This division of the NYSP targets commercial vehicles that are in violation of the laws regarding commercial vehicles.

That makes the most sense, but the NYSP CVEU units do not have any special insignia with the word "Commercial".

It wasn't a traffic stop - the NYS Commercial Police (a little known enforcement agency within the state government) was escorting this years Superbowl commercials to TV stations all over the state. Many states don't have a dedicated department like this and just refer the work to the State Patrol/Highway Patrol/State Police but New York doesn't want to take the heat for one of these million dollar commercials winding up on YouTube before the game! At other times of the year they also provide security at the filming of commercials and TV shows around the state.

What colors was the car and where on Route 9 were you?

It was a rare sighting indeed!

Chris, you are almost as good as me! Commercial Police....LMAO

There is the link to the CVEU...that is the only known state commercial vehicle enforcement.

I have a feeling that you saw a Green car and it said Conservation Police....just a thought!

A couple of things. One is that Superbowl commercials are shot very close to the actual event, which is 4.5 months away. Second, they are inserted into the broadcast from a network master control room in either NYC or LA, not from local affiliate stations.

Why yes, yes I am!

Not jerking the chain, merely tugging at it a little bit. Come on, this board can use some levity from time to time!!!

Oswego, I figure you're right and it was En Con - that's why I asked what color the car was.

No respect for the sarcasm police at all. You've got a lot of nerve actually posting FACTs on this thread!!! :P

post-4247-1190325222.jpgNew York State DEC Police have new Dodge Durangos and Ford PIs with new paint and lettering. The cars are black with gold lettering and clear LED lightbars. I took a photo of a Durango in Lagrange a while back.

And they would definitely stop container trucks...especially ones with loads spilling out all over our roadways!

I am assigned to my Department's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, and we generally work in conjunction with outside agencies including NYS En Con Police. The new vehicles are black with gold lettering, and each one of these officers have a very strong knowledge of commercial vehicle enforcement.
