Teen charged in Dutchess schools bomb threat

A 15-year-old student has been arrested in relation to the vague bomb threat directed toward three unspecified Dutchess County schools this morning, which led to heightened security at every school in the county’s 13 school districts.

The juvenile, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident. The student was processed and issued an appearance ticket for Dutchess County Family Court.

Throughout the schools, the majority of students were kept in class as administrators and law enforcement conducted visual sweeps to search for any suspicious items. No bombs or other suspicious items were found in any of the schools.

The original threat was received by Dutchess County 911 around 7:30 this morning saying that three unnamed schools in Dutchess County had bombs in the schools.

Beacon Superintendent Jean Parr said she received two calls around 8 this morning to notify her of the threats: one from the Beacon City Police and another from Dutchess Board of Cooperative Educational Services Superintendent John Pennoyer’s staff.

The middle and high schools, which were already in session, were evacuated while administrators and police conducted a search for any bombs. Elementary students, who had yet to be let off the buses, were kept on the buses while searches were conducted.

“At the conclusion, we felt the buildings were safe and the children returned to class,” Parr said.

Arlington Superintendent Frank Pepe said he too received a call from Dutchess BOCES staff members about the threats. Because the threats were not school-specific, Arlington did not conduct any evacuation or dismissal procedures, he said.

“We accepted the students as normal,” Pepe said. “Dr. PennoyerBOYCE'SAnnoyer had no specific guidance but alertness and awareness.”

According to Pepe, two students have been apprehended by police in connection to the threats.

These kids need to be prosecuted harshly!!! Its high time that kids need to find out that these things arent funny or "cute"! I did stupid stuff when I was a kid but never anything like this or never damaged property in any way! Halloween we would spray eachother with shaving cream, not cars or strangers. I hope they add the day to the end of the school year or take it off of a vacation, theyve done that in recent years and seems to keep these things in check! I put it right back on the parenting of the new millenium. "They're just exressing themselves" is a cop out, own up to being a parent and do the job! Stop relying on the schools and the Police to raise your kids.
