Swings for Sydney

3 posts in this topic

Sorry for the last minute post, I know it doesn't really give much notice.

Today, Sept 9th in Derby CT, there will be a benefit for a local girl with a rare form of cancer. Here is a quote from our town website:

A fund raiser, named "Swings for Sydney", to benefit Sydney Bartone is being held Sunday Sept. 9th starting at 1:00pm and ending at 6:00pm at Ryan Park/Osborndale Park. Sydney is a beautiful 7 year old girl from Derby who has Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer that targets the nervous system. This terribly painful form of cancer affects 600 infants & children in the United States every year.

It will be held at Ryan field and Osborndale State Park with the softball to start at 2:00pm. We will have four teams on the field. The Derby PD/FD team to play the Ansonia PD/FD team and then the Derby FD team to play the Ansonia FD team. Time allowing, we may be capable of getting a winner bracket to play for bragging rights.

Cost of the event will be $20 - adults, $10 - kids 5-12, and $5 for children under 5. Tickets will include the game, food, soda, live bands and activities for all. Tickets will be available from each firehouse in Derby, Emily's Steakhouse or at the field the day of the event.

Basically, she went in remission about a year ago. Some might remember the past fund raisers. But the cancer is back, and the path that they have chosen is to make her as comfortable as possible, and as happy as they can. She has wanted to go to Disney for years, and we all hope to make that wish come true.

Again, I apologize to the lack of notice. But if anyone's in the area please stop by. Its for a great cause.

Moose,

I don't know if you're involved in this, but please remind someone of the Make-a-Wish foundation. My ex's brother had leukemia, and they got the family from Illinois to Walt Disney World/Epcot Center. I believe it was 4 nights lodging and 3 days in the parks. I have always believed in the foundation and support it whenever I can.

Thanks for bringing the foundation up, I'll pass it on.

Today went very well. Hopefully it will help.
