I remember the call AUDIT with DR D at Hunter MTN. It was awesome. If they had just done that in the first place I wouldn't have let my MAC run out. Maybe I will go and see what is up. At least I know that my CASES won't be called. LOL

RWC...you just hearing about some of these now?

The Empress sponsored CA's at Brodie's are always a great time. A lot of familiar faces from near agencies and friends I don't get to see nearly enough...you should come to it.

Oneeye...wouldn't mind a Hunter Trip either!

Rob, I hope you don't think this is a bad idea. Everyone who attends these should be responsible adults and not drive drunk! But, they are a great way to learn in a loose, casual environment. Always a great time and people come from everywhere to attend!

May be the only way for Sheri to get some continuing education...LOL!!!!

With all due respect, I don't think a Call Audit or CME should be

conducted in a BAR.

Individuals and organizations need to be particularly aware of recent court rulings on the issue of vicarious liability. The sponsoring party of an event where alcohol is served can be held liable when a person consuming alcohol at that event is involved in an accident resulting in personal injury or death.

Just MY two cents!

First of all, I have never been to one of these so I can't comment whether it is done "dry" and "responsibly." With that said, I do have some concerns to mention.

How many times have those of us in the FIRE SERVICE been made fun of, criticized and dragged thru the mud due to our history with alcohol mixing with our responsibilities? And how often, even right here on EMTBravo have you EMS-only types had a "Holier-then-thou" attitude about firefighters drinking at parades....but you have no problem with conducting TRAINING IN BARS?! A double-standard...no?

I am a Firefighter/EMT myself for long enough to consider myself a part of both cultures. I am also an Instructor, and as such I frown on those that don't take training and education seriously. I have taken courses at all kinds of venues in the 15+ years I have been affiliated. Firehouses, Training Centers, etc. and nothing drive me crazy more then seeing beer offered at these.

If EMS wants "piety" and "respect" then holding training in bars, taverns or pubs is probably a little counter-productive, no?

This is a non-issue. We have '10-13' parties for people that are held at The Thirsty Turtle all the time that go off without a hitch. A CA at a bar is no different. I think that you think that the people that will be going won't be able to handle themselves and will then drink and drive. I have a little more faith in people, we're all pretty responsible adults.

It is better than sitting at WMC at 9a on a Fri after being out late on a Thurs. As long as everyone is safe I am all for this.

I have been in EMS for a few years (not an EMT yet) however I have been to a Call audit and a CME at a bar and I must say they do a pretty good job of making sure people are not drinking and driving. I've seen alot of people but only a few cars in the parking lot. It doesnt bother me when I see that at all. If fire houses have bars they why can't ems have trainning at bars?

I've been to a bunch of the audits at Brodies.... they're a good time... very casual. I for one hate going to call audits because IMO they are a waste of time, and I hate the fact that I have to do this stuff on my own time in order to keep my MAC so I can work so support myself. At least with the call audits at a place like Brodies they are enjoyable to attend. I've never seen anyone get hammered at one of these audits, everyone so far has been pretty responsible.

I think one of the main differences between drinking at parades and going to a call audit at a bar is, the EMS personnel are not in uniform, don't drive apparatus to the call audit, nor do the majority of one organization attend, leaving either the district uncovered or intoxicated. No offense but this is not a public show! A parade is. No one is driving home the ambulance and may have been drinking. Sorry, but two different worlds! If this were EMS drinking after a parade, in uniform with a bus, then I am against it. But dinner and a couple of drinks while discussing good and bad things in EMS is not the same.

You know, this was my first thought too. It may be on the up and up with people being responsible adults but there will always be skeptics (as seen in this thread) not only questioning the prudence of having a call audit at a bar but also questioning the value of the content if attendees are drinking and socializing during it.

On the flip side, I remember attending a Brodies call audit MANY years ago (could probably be measured in DOG years!) and the audit was held in a private room where no alcohol was served and then after the audit the group adjourned to the bar so there may not be any issue.

Despite that fond and sober memory, the appearance of impropriety is enough to make me side with those who are not in favor of it. The issue of vicarious liability is also a compelling argument - good point RWC!

See you all at Brodies!!! :P

I don't care if you hold it at a stip club full of one legged moderately obese and uber stanky frenchmen... 3 audits in one shot saves too much travel time to pass up!

LOL. Now Phil, while I appreciate your fetish for unclean Frenchmen, I personally will pass on that above. :P

NOW.....for the past two years NWH and PMH have sponsored a CME at Traveler's Rest for local EMS responders in appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Both have featured open bars. Shall we criticize those as well? OMG. I attended in uniform. I am going to go resign now.

I disagree - there is a fundamental difference between call audits and 10-13 parties. Call audits are supposed to be educational experiences while 10-13 parties are fundraisers to benefit someone in need.

Reading about all the antics of so-called responsible adults who are involved in providing our job security leads me to question whether not we should have that much faith in people! :o
