San Fransisco fire department

4 posts in this topic

Hi there, kind of new to the group, names jed, im from the Uk, and a serving career firefighter in the London Fire Brigade.

Any questions anyone wants to know about how things are done acrros the pond, please, fire away.

I am myself, after some info on the SFFD, there seems there are no websites, official, other than their own city site, or unnoficial, dedicated to this traditional well known department, i have only found one firehouse site, and thats station 11, but it seems its been neglected for some time.

Im really after a map of the SFFD stations, info on the busiest and quietest units/stations, and the main thing im after at the mo, is any info, pics or anything regarding SFFD Engine 3, are they a single engine, or housed with a truck??, and where did the new ALF centenial rigs go??

Many thanks in advance guys, hope someone aout there can help.

Jed

Welcome, Jed!

We've got members here from all over the US, including California, so I'm sure you'll find out more information.

For starters, perhaps this link will help--it's the San Francisco Fire Museum.

Also, a few days ago there was a discussion of San Francisco's use of wooden ladders--you can find it under Emergency Services Equipment http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=20040

Pic of Engine 3 in the SFFD apparatus gallery.

I've been out to SF a few times the last couple of years. I was actually there two weeks ago. I'll be adding about a dozen more apparatus photos the next few days. Engine 1, 3, 7, 10, 11 are 5 of the 10 running the new ALF's. The SFFD sends the new rigs to the busiest companies. The replaced units, which may only be a few years old, then go to the slower companies for replacement. The slower houses will not usually see a new rig. For example, Engine 1 was running a 2004 model and is now running a 2006 ALF.

Engine 3 runs with Truck 3 near Polk X Post. They have a lot of frame 3 and 4 story OMDs attached in thier first due, heavy fire load. PM me with your email address and I'll send you station locations.
