Route 9 work scheduled in Sleepy Hollow, Mt. Pleasant, Ossining

Poughkeepsie -- The New York State Department of Transportation Tuesday announced that temporary re-striping work on NY 9, from Route 117 in the Sleepy Hollow/Mt. Pleasant area to Highland Terrace in Ossining, will take place between 9 p.m. Friday, August 17, and 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18.

In this area, much of NY 9 will be reconfigured from four 9½-foot wide lanes with no shoulders (two in each direction) to three 12-foot wide lanes (one in each direction plus a center turning lane) with minimal (two-foot) shoulders.

Beginning on Sunday, August 26, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., and continuing on Sunday through Thursday nights through September, resurfacing work and permanent re-striping will take place in this area. During these overnight hours, travelers should expect to encounter single-lane alternating traffic, controlled by flaggers.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
