Conscious or Unconscious?

6 posts in this topic

I dont know if this has anything to do with medical, but it seems like it.

When you are sleeping, are you considered conscious or unconscious?

Maybee unconscious means un aware not intentually? Or is sleeping considered unconscious intentually? If that makes sense.

It got me thinking

If you're sleeping, and you are rousable (meaning you can be woken up), then you're concious. If you're sleeping and can't be woken up, then you're unconcious.

Good definition Seth. Even when you are sleeping you are in a conscious state. Depending on the level stimuli needed to arouse you will judge that "level of consciousness." It starts from alert, verbal, pain and then unconscious/unresponsive. Most sleepers are verbal, even "heavy sleepers" tend to be arousable by "loud verbal stimuli."

I usually go unconcious after several adult beverages and choose to be unresponsive. Does that quallify????

Just joking all. Seth described it the best. If you give a sleeping person a good ol' sternal rub and they wake up and swear at you then they are A & O times three (Alert and Oriented)

Izzy you are kidding about this also right? lol. Lets not forget that profanity and combativeness is a basic animalistic human reaction. Believe me when I say that at least once a week myself and my co-workers get blated with profanity by those no where near CAOx3 after a good sternal rub (or foot grind on those you can't see their hands).
