Description: Major underground steam explosion with several aided down on the street and a large column of steam leaking.

1752hrs- E-21 (on EMS run) and NYPD PCT units reporting an explosion in the area.

1753hrs- Units report a large column of smoke with debris and people down. B-9 transmitting 2nd Alarm On Arrival.

1758hrs- B-9 rpts a possible underground steam explosion. ESU Truck 1 units O/S. NYPD Level 1 Mobilization.

1800hrs- NYPD units advising debris falling over a wide area, units to deploy with helmets and masks. Grand Central Station is closed.

1804hrs- B-9 transmitting 3rd Alarm. Staging will be 42nd X Grand Central. ESU and FDNY conducting searches of surrounding properties. Units also taking readings.

1805hrs- NYPD Level 2 Mobilization for 42nd X Lexington.

1806hrs- 4th Alarm Transmitted. ESU WMD Sgt. rpts NYPD Decon units are responding down Lexington Ave.

1809hrs- Div. 3 transmitting 10-60/Major Emergency. NYPD ESU using Truck 1, Truck 2, Truck 4, WMD/Haz Mat and Supervisors, no further ESU officers needed ATT. Con Ed is on scene.

1820hrs- EMS transporting (2) burn victims ATT.

1838hrs- NYPD ESU has established a Decon area on Lexington X 44th St to decon NYPD Officers. Con Ed is in the process of shutting down the main.

1840hrs- Field Comm. req. (2) additional Decon Task Forces to the scene. One into the north of 43rd St and one to set up south of 43rd St. Train service being restored at Grand Central.

1855hrs- EMS treating (6) 10-45 no codes. OEM is advising all non-essential personell and civilians to stay away from area due to unknown levels of contaminants in the air.

1857hrs- All incoming outer-borough units use Lower level Queensboro Bridge. FDNY setting up multiple mass decon areas for civilians in the area.

1920hrs- Primary Searches of immediate exposures are (-). Con Ed still in the process of shutting down the main.

1945hrs- 6th Alarm transmitted for relief. (1) victim has been pronounced at the hospital. (12) 10-45's were reported, including (3) w/critical burns.
