National FF1 & FF2 Exam in Westchester Aug 4 & 5

9 posts in this topic

Just seen an announcement on the DES Website for the National FF1 and FF2 examination.

I'm sure that this wont be for just Westchester residents. When I signed up for ti 2 years ago, there was not enough interest and it was cancelled. I'll be signing up for FF 2 this year. Hopefully there will be enough interest this year to run the two exams.

Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Just received a phone call that the National FF1 & FF2 exams have been cancelled - due to lack of interest  . Apparently there were only about 4 people signed up for the exam.

Apparently Nassau is in a similar situation and they've cancelled their running of the exams. I'm not sure there was even enough interest to run a combined class.

Now I have to decide if it's worth going to Montour Falls for a 6-8 exam. :(

Maybe if Putnam was successful with their FF1, they'll have enough interest to run FF2.

If your looking to get into the Federal Firefighter system you need the National certs...so it would be beneficial to take it.

Just checking WC DES Web site, I see they are trying again for FF1 & FF2 National Examinations on Dec 1 and 2nd.

Maybe this time there will be enough interest to run the exam .......

Thanks for the info. I found the training listed at the Orange County FTC page. I'll add that to the list from Rockland and Putnam that I occassionally check in on to see what's offered.

Monty.

So, I guess I'm not too surprised - they've decided to cancel the FF1 & FF2 exams at Westchester for low enrollment. Although, I thought they might wait a few more weeks.

If anyone knows of anywhere offering FF2 please let me know - other than Montour Falls. I guess I may just have to eat the 8+ hours travel for the 6 hour experience :(

They may offer it in Ct at their academy. Montour Falls is quite the hike! Make sure you get the study guide for it as without it some of those questions are very very strange!

I took the national certifiation challenge for Fire fighter 1, firefighter 2, Hazmat awarness, and hazmat operations at Bucks county public safety. Bucks county is a 2 hour 30 minute drive from westchester which sure beats driving to montour falls. I have nothing but good things to say about bucks except they can sometimes be difficult to get ahold of on the phone. The ff1/2 are offered on the 11/17-18, 3/01-02, and other times later in 08. I definatly agree with roofsopen about some of the questions being totaly off the wall. I remember one question on the written test was like "what is the most common weight for a sledge hammer in the fire service?" All I remember thinking when I read that question was "what the hell does it matter I'm gonna grab the only one on my truck regardless of its weight." http://www.bucks.edu/publicsafety/

It's not surprising that courses got cancelled in Westchester - we know it all already! :P

They should include units on blue lights in the courses... That would undoubtedly drum up interest as training threads die a quick death but lights and siren threads go on forever!

Maybe halogen lights for FF1 and Strobes and LEDs for FF2?

Good luck to you!
