Fatal crash this morning on Route 55

FREEDOM PLAINS – One person died and another was injured in a one-car crash this morning on Route 55, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. by Apple Valley Plaza in LaGrange, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. Information on the victims isn't expected until this afternoon.

Jim Dawson, assistant LaGrange fire chief, said the car swerved, hit a pole and sustained serious damage. One occupant was pronounced dead at the hospital; the other also was taken to the hospital with injuries that "did not appear life-threatening," he said.
