Seagrave Introduces FWD Intruder

11 posts in this topic

Apparently, at FDIC, Seagrave introduced it's newest chasis, the "FWD Intruder", aimed at the entry level AKA low price market.

The FWD Intruder

The FWD Intruder is the newest addition to the Seagrave line specifically designed for the entry level. Engines are available from 330 HP to 400 HP. The FWD Intruder has a aluminum body and offers an aluminum, stainless steel or poly body.

I wonder why they are branding this as FWD?

So they dont ruin the name of Seagrave

different name so it is not associated that easily with seagrave so it would just be a subsitary

Or a revival of FWD

maybe FWD = Front Wheel Drive

I doubt it. Wouldn't you need those horses on the back axle for pushing the thing up steep hills?

FWD is the parent corporation of Seagrave. Maybe they are trying to establish it as a seperate brand and resurecting the FWD chasis (of which my TL is built on), the brand of which died in 1995.

Could you imagine dragging all the gear and the tank???? 330 hp...sounds like one of the old Yonkers Maxim's...

referring of course to the front wheel drive comment.

First glance, it looks like an HME.

Actually-FWD-"Four Wheel Drive auto company" is the parent organization of Seagrave. FWD made heavy duty off and on road: snowplows, ARFF vehicles. At one time they made a chassis for fire apparatus-I belive Bedford Hills had a engine and a snorkel on that chassis.. Recently, FWD was bought by former American LaFrance and Freightliner chairman James Hebe. He acquired the FWD corporation,Seagrave,Aerialscope, and Almote Fire Trucks of Canada.

FWD acquired Seagrave in 1964 and moved their production to Wisconsin. FWD made heavy duty specialty trucks with All Wheel Drive as well with a non driving front axle. They also made crane carriers, utility trucks, fire appartus oil field trucks, and some unusual Military trucks. Their photo archive at their museam is impressive. Their factory still has a small test track they built during WWI, for their 3 ton truck that served well into the 1930's. I kind of like seeing an old brand name coming back, especially when it is being built by the origional company. I would like to see FWD building specialty trucks again.
