Newark Fire Sees Red

14 posts in this topic

I found out on another board that Newark Fire Department has a new, red color scheme.

http://groups.msn.com/NewarkFireHistory/newarkseesred.msnw

Their newest rigs up to now have been white with a blue stripe, and there are still some of the older white over lime with a red stripe.

I think the new scheme looks awesome, although I did like the white scheme.

Catch a job and it'll look like three different Dept's operating.

I love red. I just don't care too much for the black stripe, not much help at night.

I remember seeing those green rigs at a prison fire (I think) on that show The Bravest. I miss that show, bring it back!

Just and FYI the city of Newark is also going to ALF rigs with the new order of I think 3 engine's and 1 ladder to start with and they may have an add on very soon. I will get more info and pass it on.

From a very reliable source states it appears American LaFrance has won the bid to supply the Newark with three engines and two trucks that were put out for bid from the 2005 budget.

Also rumored is that there is talk of tacking on three more engines, two more trucks, and a new rescue from the 2006 budget.

From an E-mail

I agree. There is virtually no reflectivity of light from a black stripe. What were they thinking ?

BTW - Gotta love them red fire trucks !!!

It was Newark that you remember seeing the prison fire on. It was July of 2000, a very hot summer day. The prison was the old Essex County Jail Complex, completly abadoned since 1989. It was built in the 1830's, with multiple additions and renovations over time. The complex occupies an acre of land. Although there is much deterioration, it is still a beautiful complex with some hope. I must note that a portion was demolished after (and during-they brought in heavy equipment to help with access) the fire. It's on NJ's Preservartion Societies Top Ten Endangered List.

I too wish they would resurect "The Bravest" It's lousy position on syndicated overnight TV gave the show no hope- if only a network had picked it up. .

The black stripe reflects a bright silver at night.

Catch a job and it'll look like three different Dept's operating.

LOL! So true! Add in UMDNJ's Rescue and NPD's ESU and it will look like 5, easily.

CPage, thanks for the info.....it's nice to see Newark upgrading their fleet....I am hearing some good things about Newark FD for the first time in years.

Here's Newark's Engine 28 with their current paint scheme:

If its anything like the black stripping most depts are using these days, its reflective and very bright. With ambient light the colors are rich and bright. As soon as you shine a light on them the glow big time.

The black stripe is reflective! It is produces by 3M and when light hits it, it gives off a grayish/gold almost white reflection. We have the same stripe on my engine and we were skeptical (along with others at first) our old police cars in town had the black reflective stripes and lettering along with gold reflective and were amazed how well it worked.

Don't doubt something unless you have seen how well it does work. smile.gif
