AP--LADSON — DNA tests on Monday confirmed that a body found in a freshly dug grave near Orangeburg was that of missing state Constable Robert Bailey, 67.

Bailey disappeared while patrolling Lincolnville on May 14, sparking a massive manhunt that stretched over 60 miles in three counties before the grave was discovered Saturday. Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said Bailey had been stripped of his uniform before his burial. An autopsy showed he died from gunshots.

She wouldn't say how many times he had been shot, but indicated that he likely died instantly. His funeral is planned for Thursday at noon at Summerville Family Worship Center.
