Woman Survives "Internal Decapitation"

This is a pretty interesting story I just read on MSNBC.com about a woman who survived a car wreck that popped her head off her spine, internally.

I previously had never heard of such a thing.

Heard of this happening a few times, including at least once where the kinetics were so powerful that it ended up killing one person due to the spine being impaled throughthe brain stem.

Oh man.....I just can't imagine the pain she must have felt when they would brace it and it would still slip off the spine. Got to be misery

Gene Stolowski from FDNY L-27 had a similiar injury when he bailed out of the top flr of a tenement in the Bronx on 1/23/05.

Is he ok?, Did he drop to the ground with no rope? how long was his recovery,if he's still alive?

New York Magazine did an excellent article on that fire in January of this year. FF Stolowski fell head first out the window and suffered an internal decapitation. After about a month he was released to rehab and some time later was back up and walking. He has over come some amazing odds through hard work and an unimaginable will to persevere. In a city like NY where you have arguably the best andmost experianced docs in the country FF Stolowski's case the type the people read about but rarely if ever see. I don't know him personally, but from what I undersatnd he and his family are doing well all things considered.
