Research on 9/11.

I noticed the 4 inch fire hose from our Fort Myer Rescue Engine #161. That meant our fellow fire fighters were on the scene. This was a relief because after I called them on the radio, I was certain it would be difficult for them to get to the Pentagon because of the traffic. But I learned later that Rescue Engine #161, Rescue Engine #162 and the Assistant Chief did not have difficulty getting to the Pentagon.

More quotes from the account of the Ft Myer FF's injured when the airliner crash into the Pentagon / comsuming FOAM UNIT 161 on 9/11

The Fort Myer firefighters then immediately head for the Pentagon, arriving there at 9:40 a.m., only three minutes after it is hit, and participate in the firefighting and rescue effort there. The fire station at the Pentagon heliport is actually operated by the Fort Myer Fire Department, and is manned on the morning of 9/11 by three Fort Myer firefighters.

Ft Myer Fireman Alan Wallace is busy with a safety crew at the Pentagon’s heliport pad. As Wallace is walking in front of the Pentagon, he looks up and sees Flight 77 coming straight at him. It is about 25 feet off the ground, with no landing wheels visible, a few hundred yards away, and closing fast. He runs about 30 feet and dives under a nearby van.

The plane is traveling at about 460 mph, and flying so low that it clips the tops of streetlights. Using the radio in the van, he calls his fire chief at nearby Fort Myer and says, “We have had a commercial carrier crash into the west side of the Pentagon at the heliport, Washington Boulevard side. The crew is OK. The airplane was a 757 Boeing or a 320 Airbus.”

Before 9:37 a.m. September 11, 2001: Army Base near Pentagon Holding Air Field Fire Fighting TrainingAt the Education Center at Fort Myer, an army base 1.5 miles northwest of the Pentagon, the base’s firefighters are undertaking training variously described as “an airport rescue firefighters class”; “an aircraft crash refresher class”; “a week-long class on Air Field Fire Fighting”; and a “training exercise in airport emergency operations.” Despite hearing of the first WTC crash during a break, with no access to a TV, the class simply continues with its training. According to Bruce Surette, who is attending the session: “We had heard some radio transmissions from some other units in Arlington about how they thought they had a plane down here or a plane down there. So you’re thinking, ‘Hey this could be real.’ But it really didn’t strike home as being real until our guy came on the radio and said where the plane crash was.” The Fort Myer firefighters then immediately head for the Pentagon, arriving there at 9:40 a.m., only three minutes after it is hit, and participate in the firefighting and rescue effort there. The fire station at the Pentagon heliport is actually operated by the Fort Myer Fire Department, and is manned on the morning of 9/11 by three Fort Myer firefighters who have already undertaken the airfield firefighting training.

Pre-arranged. A Member (Friend) of Ft Myer FD grew up in Ossining NY.

His father is an active member of Independent Hose Engine 101 OFD.

A group of us filed personal information a few months in advance and recieved visitor passes to the Pentagon.

Much Thanks to Vance for the great tour.

The Fort Myer Firefighters injured (Burned)on Sept 11 2001 witnessed the plane hit the Pentagon and carried out there duties to help others.

Pentagon firefighter’s gear

Description: Pentagon firefighter Mark Skipper wore this bunker gear (firefighting jacket and pants) and casual shirt and pants on September 11.

Context: On the morning of September 11, Mark Skipper and fellow firefighter Alan Wallace pulled Foam Truck 161 out of the Pentagon firehouse and parked it on the Pentagon helipad in preparation for President Bush’s planned arrival later in the day. The crash of the airliner into the Pentagon destroyed the back of the truck and threw Skipper and Wallace to the ground. After calling for help and extinguishing the burning truck, the firefighters turned their attention to the heavily damaged Pentagon.

Good. Maybe he can tell all the conspiracy theorists who say it was a missile to stuff it.

A good friend of mine transferred from Montrose VA FD down to Fort Myers and he loves it. Then again I can't blame him, I loved living in Virginia also. I had the pleasure to train and visit Fort Myers several times while stationed at Quantico, its a beautiful facility.

Nice picks of the flag raising. For anyone who hasn't seen it the movie "Flags of Our Fathers" depicts some of the life stories of the surviving flag raisers, and the politics that were involved in its wake. For all you readers out there the book that the movie was based on was written by the son of the Navy Corpsman who was involved in the raising. Very well written book.
