What Is Kitbashing?

3 posts in this topic

I know there's many members of this site unfamiliar with "kitbashing". And there are those who are.

Regardless, this (Roadblockers) is an awesome page to explain it:

And let's not forget some kitbash examples from our own Stepjam, who has done kitbashes of Yonkers apparatus:

Like I said in other threads, I think it is very cool...just I am not good at stuff like that. I can paint existing models to look like common place items but, I cannot ever make anything out of nothing! I was trying to make a city scene of the South Bronx from the 60's, but that got nowhere...while trying to make buildings I got so frustrated and just gave up...Have the train set I was going to use as an el and all still in the box...even bought model mack fire trucks trying to match what was used back then...As for Stepjam...he seems to be a master with his hands! Wish I was 1/100th as good as him!

So I think kitbashing is taking kits (ready to build models, diecast toys, plastic toys) and bashing them together and adding creative hand built materials to form what appears to be an exact replica of an existing product. JMO though...

Sounds pretty cool. I have seen some of x635 and others work and got an idea of what it was, never knew exactly though. Like osweowind, I don’t have the patience or the skills to do anything like that. Thanks for the link x635, really cleared things up for me.
