April 08, 2007

Monticello — Beer cans aren't supposed to have coke in them.

Two men were arrested Friday in Monticello when police found them possessing crack cocaine that was stashed in the hidden compartment of a fake Budweiser can.

Richard Chapman, 40, and Kevin Smith, 28, both of Brooklyn, were pulled over on Jefferson Street when police saw their car swerving over the yellow line. Chapman was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and Smith was arrested for possessing the trick beer can with 6.5 grams of crack cocaine inside, police said.

Both were sent to Sullivan County Jail; Chapman on $250 bail and Smith without bail. Smith is currently on lifetime parole for a prior felony conviction of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Both will appear in Village of Monticello court April 13 at 1 p.m.
