Newburgh firefighter suffers mild electrical shock

Newburgh - One firefighter suffered a minor electrical shock battling a basement blaze early yesterday morning. City firefighters were called to 286 Grand St. around 3:20 a.m. yesterday, said Assistant Chief Gary Ferguson. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement of the four-story apartment house. No one was in the basement at the time of the blaze, but eight other residents of the building were evacuated. As many as 20 firefighters fought the fire, which was contained to basement and a portion of the first floor. One firefighter was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital after suffering a mild electrical shock. He was treated and released. Firefighters had the fire under control in about an hour, Ferguson said yesterday. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The resident of the first-floor apartment found shelter through the local Red Cross. Residents of the upper floors were allowed to return to their homes.

I bet it didn't help the fact that Central Hudson took over an hour to get there...

Thank god it wasn't serious.
