From the Secret List:

"It is with deep regret that we advise you that 1 Chicago firefighter from Truck 51 was killed this morning while responding to a call. The apparatus was struck by a driver-only school bus, and the rig rolled over. Another FF remains critical and the other 2 are stable. Killed was Chicago Fire Department 20 year veteran, 44-year-old FF William Grant.

Witnesses claim the apparatus was westbound on 59th Street with its lights and sirens on and the school bus traveling south on Wells didn't stop in time...the apparatus driver swerved to try to avoid the bus, but the rig was struck in the rear right corner and rolled.

More details to follow.

As always, our deepest condolences go out to the members of Truck 51, the CFD and especially the families effected.

******ALSO: We also just received word of a serious FD related vehicle crash on Rt. 78 in Newark, New Jersey, with at least one member trapped. Details to follow.

Take Care-BE CAREFUL.

Chicago Firefighter Dies in Crash With School Bus

Friday , March 23, 2007

ADVERTISEMENTCHICAGO —

A Chicago fire truck heading to a call collided with an empty school bus Friday morning, killing one firefighter and injuring three others. The bus driver had just finished dropping off the children for the day.

Witnesses reported that the fire truck's lights and siren were on but that the bus driver couldn't stop in time. The impact knocked the truck on its side, police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak said.

Firefighter William Grant, a 44-year-old father of three, was killed, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

Fire Commissioner Raymond Orozco said Grant's death was "a loss to all of us."

The conditions of the injured firefighters and the bus driver were not immediately released.

The bus was operated by a contractor, Chicago Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn said. He said the driver had just dropped off students at Sheridan Elementary School, about four miles north of the accident on the city's South Side.

Damn, this recent mva gives more meaning to the old saying, " bad things usually happen in three"! First PG CNTY. then Chicago, now Newark. All mva's with apparatus. What the F*ck! I tell ya one thing, I hope these recent accidents are at least a wake up call for all those chauffers out there, the next time they're responding. Stay Safe and on your Guard Brothers!
