Anyone know when the Mount Vernon and Yonkers FD's will be giving exams?

Yonkers gave an exam in June of 2004. That list has not been certified yet due to a law suit and it probobly will not surface until sometime this year. I would guess that a test would follow a couple of years after the list comes out. But hey, who knows. No one....

Call 665-2357 (MV Civil Service) for info on any future MV tests.

The new Yonkers FF's list that has been on hold for several years, was just certified Thursday 4/26/2007. I would assume everyone will be receiving their rankings and mark in the very near future. The list as of now, is a two year list due to expire on 4/26/2009.

If it does indeed remain only a two year list, I would assume Yonkers would be giving another FF test sometime in 2008 (usually June) with the agility in the Fall of 2008, so the that list would be ready to replace the other one in 4/2009.

This is just by opinion from how I have seen FF's exams given in Yonkers in the past.

Just keep checking with Yonkers Civil Service to see when they expect or do indeed schedule a new test.

As much as I'd love to get on the job in Yonkers, I'm not holding out much hope - not being a resident. If I remember, you have to be a resident for 30 days prior to the test. I assume MV is somewhat similar.

from what i hear, with the exception of the last test (for whatever reasons), every Yonkers exams gets extended to 4 years, rather than getting tossed after 2. I hope to see this one also go to four, but again, who knows...we'll see about another test.

and as for residency, its not like NYC where its kinda easy to fake it. Yonkers, and I'm sure the other county's cities are no joke. Not easy for someone to just pack up and move to a city just for a test. yes, if you want it bad enough, you've do it, but I'm just saying i can understand why someone ppl just cant...fortunately, i do live in yonkers...hope to see progress...FINALLY!!!

Residency Requirements for Yonkers FD are:

RESIDENCE:

Candidates must be legal residents of Westchester County for at least three (3) months immediately proceeding the date of the written examination and continuously up to and including the date of appointment.

PREFERENCE IN APPOINTMENT WILL BE GIVEN TO SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF YONKERS FOR AT LEAST THREE (3) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION AND CONTINUOUSLY UP TO AND INCLUDING THE DATE OF APPOINTMENT.

They have gotten strict about enforcing it too. The YPD does the background checks for all candidates. They do indeed check all candidates thoroughly and confirm that the address listed is indeed where they reside.

Tell your buddy to watch the list, if he is not going to reached (he's probably not going to be) he can withdraw his vet credits and use them on another test. You don't want to let valuble credits go to waste. Good luck in the future to all candidates.

Assuming I could move (which isn't going to happen for me), which city would one be most likely to hired on to? Yonkers, Mount Vernon, White Plains, NYC ( for the extra credits)?

Maybe not all cities are as tough as Yonkers with residency but it's kind of difficult (and expensive) to keep residences in all the different cities tongue.gif . Especially from before the test through to placement.

You would probably have the best chance with FDNY. They are the largest job by far so therefore do the most hiring. The other cities are alot smaller so you would have to do exceptionally well on the tests to get hired. It's a personal decision where you are going to reside, best of luck to you whatever you decide.

I know the class that just graduated a bunch of FDMV guys was in the teens on the list. A guy that was #11 on the list got a call for another Dept and would have been in that class. Hope that helps alittle.
