Those Ward LaFrance cabs were GREAT. Had two in my old department and they ran great, even after 30 years. No cab has ever had visability as good as those Wards, it seemed like the wheel was rigth above the bumper and you should see just about straight down.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District also had a 1977 Ward and in 1992 had E-ONE do a new chasse an body.(E-ONE Cyclone Cab). They kept the motor an had it re worked with a new turbo and jake brake. The pump was also tested and put in the new rig. The engine is still in service today, the old number was Engine 165 now known as 56-13.

I always felt like I was going to fall out. That's when a Fire Engine was a Fire Engine all bare metal on the inside. No middle seat just a pad in between the passenger and driver.

Memories of CFD's E120, the Drivers Seat was pretty much on top of the front wheel. That along with having the whip antenna on the drivers side, which would constantly hit low tree branches, would let you know you were too close to the curb on the Officer's side.

I loved that engine. I remember sitting in the drivers seat of it at Fairview's open house when I was a child..

Hartsdale still has one, will be sad to see it go. Very fun to drive.
