New Rochelle, North Castle get firefighting grants

The New Rochelle and North Castle Fire Departments have each been awarded federal grants for equipment and other operations and safety improvements, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, announced today.

New Rochelle will receive $112,000, and North Castle will receive $63,441 under the federal Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Program. The funds will be used for equipment and other essential firehouse operations and safety improvements.

"These fire departments have sought to provide their firefighters with the best training and gear possible under a very tight budget. This grant will help bridge the homeland security funding gap and ensure that our communities have the best protection possible," Lowey said in a statement.
