Norwalk CT's New Ferrra

22 posts in this topic

ferrara in production

Here is the link for the new Norwalk Ferrara. It looks to be an International chasis with a Hackney body. Anyone know what this will be used for?

The new contracts page says its gonna be a hazmat.

If you look further down the page, they used the exact same pictures for the Torrington, CT rig...

To be honest, it looks like they can paint Coca-Cola down the side and have a new delivery truck...so far!

Nope, All the State hazmats are Pierce / Freightliners and all 34 have been delivered. That pic has to be Torrington's rig since they have red trucks, Norwalk would order a white truck with red stripes.

I have heard that Norwalk may be changing to red rigs. But I had heard they were getting in a new Engine before any kind of Rescue. So I'm not sure what that rig may be.

Norwalk's current rescue is the oldest rig of there frontline apparatus. Not sure if they are replacing it or not, however Norwalk favors Spartan apparatus. Norwalk has updated most of there frontline trucks from 2002 until now with white and red stripe. As far as I know they are not chaning colors anytime soon.

FYI - Norwalk is going RED for all future deliveries.

Although a Ferrara, it looks like an exact copy of a Hackney body. There are also 5 other similar rigs listed as being delivered to CT Departments (Wallingford, Torrington, Norwalk, and both Indian Casinos).

It appears to be part of some regional/State initiative, but as Izzy mentioned, the State has already delivered the 34 Pierce Contenders with ACS Trailers as part of a statewide response plan.

Perhaps someone can add other details.

Hey guys -

This rig is going to be the new Hazmat Response Vehicle for Fairfield County Hazmat. On Fairfield County Hazmat's Website, they have the same pics of it in production. Right now FC hazmat has an old international truck and this will be their new one

Engine 1 (Spartan) will be be in the city sometime in April and yes it will be solid red with the striping still to be determined. The Rescue should be going out to bid early summer and hopefully a new truck will survive the buget cuts and start the planning stages soon. As for the new Ferrara "soda" truck it is coming from the state or a homeland security grant, we already have a "Prime mover" (Pierce / Freightliners) and a state decon trailer.

Hope that helps a little

Chris

Just to clear up some things. The Ferrara haz-mat rig is for the Fairfield County Haz-Mat team. Our new Engine co. 1 is going to be red, and it is due to be delivered sometime in late April or early May. We are also in the planning stages for a new piece of apparatus for the Rescue co.

Wow going to red?! That going to be weird for me since that will only leave a few departments with an all white fleet! Good luck with the new rigs!

I have heard that there were only 5 all white fire fleets in CT, so I guess that makes Belltown one of 4, once Norwal submits to the red mennace, lol.

I may be wrong, but I think New Haven and Manchester are 2 of the others, I am not sure of the last one.

Manchester is not all white, they are red & white strip scheme.

New Haven's fire trucks are all white with the exception of the Emergency units (E-1 is white and red and E-2 is black and red, both were demo's I believe, but they do have two spare Emergency units that are all white.) Even when NHFD purchased Seymour old Hahn engine, the painted it all white, the only red left was inside the compartments and the cab.

Scotland CT has a majority of their fleet white with a blue stripe, though they do have a red hose reel pumper, a white over red tower and a yellow brush truck. Poquonnock Bridge in Groton has a white fleet, Bethany is white with a lime green stripe and Obviously Belltown like you said and I think that is it for white fleets in CT. So there are a total of five left.

I know a few department like Derby have one white truck but not many around do anymore.

norwalk was once a all red fleet, when they used to have old american lafrance's. and than i think they switched to white in the 1980's and carried it over. once they got the color right. they went to all spartans. and with the new truck 2 the whole front line fleet(except for spares) are all spartan marion(E1,E2,R2), spartan saulsbry(E3,E4,E5), and spartan sutphen(t2) and spartan Darley/RK(T1).

I think I can clarify...

This hazmat rig is going to serve as Fairfield County Hazmat 1. The team is county based with the primary response rig (the one in question) located in Westport FD HQ. Secondary response rigs are housed in Norwalk, Wilton and Easton. It will be replacing a refurbished Coke truck that is currently serving as the main apparatus. I think it is due for delivery late spring and I will get some pictures of it and post them as soon as I can take some.
