The instructor can actually make it very difficult to drive the apparatus. I just used FDNY's simulator down at The Rock last week. They can introduce anything that one might encounter while responding to/from calls. You can even feel the rig go over curbs! Being that I used to be a chaufer the simulator is the best training tool next to driving the apparatus itself.
