New Canaan Police

Hey guys -

I think someone should take a ride over to New Canaan and check out the cruisers they have. It would be a great photo. Right now, they have about 10 cars. 3 of them are black and white, 4 of them are white with blue writing, and 3 are navy blue. They also have many unmarked. They are in the middle of a change in the look of the cars, but it seems every new car they get seems to be in a different scheme. On a given call, one can see a black and white with a navy blue and a blue and white. It looks funny! I think a photographer should take a pic because it would be a great shot.

I agree with you about our multicolred fleet. I belive the white cars were DUI enforcement units and the state mandated the color. The blue cars are the old color. and the black and white cars I believe are the new colors. As far back as I can remember New Canaan didn't have black and white cars.

Was told by one of the officers that the cars are on a lease program now so they are getting what ever has the best resale potintil

Yeah right, it is so unlike me to stem police cars. I'm into antique cars trucks and fire appartus. My Father worked for the Town Of New Canaan for many years in DPW as a mechanic and supervisor. He repaired DPW's equipment, fire appartus, and police vehicles. As a kid I was always around this and have seen the police cars change through the years as the town would replace the police cars every year. I cant remember there ever being black and white cars. The Dodge charger demo looked cool and turned alot of heads around town. I personally liked the 1977 Pontiac's with the 455 Trans Am engines.

My uncle is a Sgt in New Cannan, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind showing off a few of the cars for some NY buffs...
