NAEMT - Your Thoughts

5 posts in this topic

After a while of considering signing up for membership with NAEMT, i finally did it the other night. No real reason - i just figured it couldn't hurt any. So what does everyone else think about NAEMT? Good? Bad? Worth the 40 bucks?

I did the same a few months back. As far as I can see, the only real benefit is having it on your resume. I recieved their newsletter last month, and it spent more time focusing on their internal ops than any clinical or field issue. I went through it in all of thirty seconds and didnt really get much out of it. It appears to be better suited to upper level managers than the individual responders. That said, if I recall, their website had some decent offers/info.

I agree. They don't really seem to offer much, other than some of the interesting "benefits" like the life insurance and Mastercard. Likewise, i have been having trouble finding out what they have actually done. They say they represent us on a federal level, but what legislation have they helped push? I did see that they had a PSA...which was pretty cheesy, but i suppose its a good start. I would like to start seeing that on some of the more popular cable networks. I guess well see what happens in the next year, that will be the biggest factor on me renewing my membership.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter??

It's an NAEMT newsletter not a trade mag like JEMS or EMS. It's MEANT to focus on internal operation and keep members up to date on the latest goings on in NAEMT (They bought a building, whoopie.)

I've been a member of NAEMT for probably about 10 years. Yes it's good for the resume. Yes it's tax deductible (talk to your accountant). The best thing about NAEMT is it gives us all a voice at the national level amongst other things.

Its nice to see the internal stuff, but i guess i would also like to see a section which highlights what they are doing on the national level...what legislation are they passing, what organization or agencies are they trying to form, etc. None the less, im happy with the 40 dollar investment.
