Initial Summary:    While responding to an EMS call, Fire Commissioner and Safety Officer Catania began to experience the affects of a stroke. Catania had difficulty breathing and was unable to exit his vehicle. He notified dispatch; medical assistance responded and transported Catania to the hospital. After being transferred to another hospital, Commissioner Catania underwent surgery; however, he did not recover and passed away 02/02/2007.
