NY Paramedic Suffers Heart Attack in Class

2 posts in this topic

A fire department paramedic recruit in New York picked the right time and place to have a heart attack -- a training class.

Jeffrey Sanger, 39, may owe his life to his instructors. He was in a class at Fort Totten in Queens when he experienced chest pains Friday, the New York Post reported.

Sanger went to the locker room, but instructors followed him because they knew his symptoms are the classic signs of a heart attack.

When he collapsed, instructors sprung into action, performing CPR and using a defibrillator. Sanger came back to consciousness, asking where he was and what had happened.

"He's got an angel on his shoulder," said Joseph Hudak, one of the instructors. "He's lucky it happened here."

Great thinking by the instructors. Good job on the save guys!

Great thinking by the instructors. Good job on the save guys!

Another classic example of someone who should know better ignoring symptoms and not immediately seeking aid.

Great heads-up by the instructors!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
