I saw this on another forum, and thought this was pretty cool.

I am not saying that this was the smartest move, or it was or was not endangering anybody against safety precautions or anything like that, I just think its pretty neat. But kudos to the pilot, excellent flying, even to save the life of a deer. I know there is a pilot on this board chris (?) wonder what he/you thinks of this?

From a safety perspective, the only hazard was hovering at a such a low altitude. If the engine quit, they were going into the water.

Other than that, they didn't try to pick the thing up, they just used the downwash from the rotor system to push the thing across the ice. Trying to pick it up would have been really dangerous for a bunch of reasons.

I found it hysterical to watch and am thinking about a variation on it for next year's turkey bowling at Playland!
