Tamron Coming Out With 18-250 DiII Lens

8 posts in this topic

As many of you know, I love my Tamron 18-200 Di-II lens for my Digital Rebel SLR. The Tamron Di-II series are lenses that are specifically made for digital SLR cameras.

It's a great "walkaround", everyday lens. It's wide angle is great, and the big zoom makes the lens very handy and easy (not having to change lenses is a big help when shooting!)

Anyways, I found out today that they are releasing an upgraded model, with a 18-250 range:

I can't wait to see what this actually will retail for, I'd really like to pick one up.

Seth, you should try my lens before you buy another tamron. I purchased the Canon 70-300 digital ef lens from b&h after reviewing many online and at their store. It has image stabilization which makes it very easy to use in low light situation where you have to adjust the frame speed to a slow rate to allow enought light in to get great shots. I get clear shake free shots at even 1/20 speed without using my tripod. Of course my photos never make it to emtbravo because I forget to upload them...

It is also 58mm for filters and such...

And anyone interested in lessons, see the Tamron website, they have a mailing list and it is very informational. As well, Ritz photo stores also have updated info on classes in the region at their stores, however they are steep on camera's and lenses so when buying definitely shop around!

Osewgo, I'm actually quite satisfied with my current Tamron 18-200. I need the wide angle for apparatus shots, and the zoom for other kinds of shots. This lens is very versatile, and I don't have to change lens for different shots.

Anyways, I spoke with Tamron, Samys Camera, and B&H Photo yesterday. Tamron states the lens is tentatively scheduled to be released in March, and the dealers state they have not even been provided with info that Tamron is releasing this lens yet.

Amazon.com, however, has it listed for a January 15th release date and is already available for pre-order.

According to B&H and Tamron USA Corporate Offices, the TENTATIVE release is March '07.

However, I get the feeling it's going to be much later then that...
