Yup, they are very effective. When i travel home from Poughkeepsie on 684 i can often see the blue lights for quite a while, giving me ample time to move a lane or two over. I'm really glad to see our police officers and troopers are going to be a lot more visible while they are at work.

I really like the fact that they only have the blue lights on the rear of the lightbar, this allows you to see which direction the trooper is facing from a great distance, which lets you move accordingly. It especially helps on the thruway when they pull someone over in the median, because it used to be hard to tell which direction they were facing, but now all you have to do is look for the blue, and then you know if you need to move over or not.

That is going to be the most confusing thing for drivers to face. The way CSP does it is that the standard set up is red on the drivers side, blue on the passenger side with take downs in the front and alley on each side. Now for the rear there are three colors. The driver side has a yellow flasher in between two reds to denote to use caution for the exiting trooper and to break up the red and the passenger side has all blue facing the rear.

People are not going to remember to move or not because of the blue light location.
