MILWAUKEE -- This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

A major explosion has occurred in Milwaukee's Menomonee Valley.

The explosion occurred around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday at the Falk Corp. near 30th and Canal in the Menomonee Valley. Milwaukee police confirmed that a propane tank exploded.

It could be heard and or felt from as far away as Fox Point to the north, Oak Creek to the south and Muskego to the west.

WISN 12 News is reporting that evacuations are under way in the area.

It was a four-alarm fire. At least 30 people have been injured, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department.

WISN 12 News reporter Kent Wainscott says that three of the more seriously injured are at Froedtert Hospital. Six more victims are on the way to Froedtert, 12 News reported. Froedtert told 12 News that some victims are being taken to St. Mary's and St. Luke's. There was an interruption in power and telephone service to some businesses in the area.

Commuters are asked to avoid the area. Authorities have closed down the exit ramps from Interstate 94 at 27th and 35th streets, as well as Canal Street from 25th Street to Miller Park Way, 12 News' Matt Salemme reported from NewsChopper 12. 27th Street is also shut down from the Mitchell Park area to about Clybourn.

The Mitchell Park Domes have been evacuated. A senior health fair that was scheduled there today has been cancelled.
