County cop hurt in Bronx River Parkway crash

YONKERS - A Westchester County police officer was hurt during a traffic stop early this morning when a Volkswagen rear-ended his patrol car on the Bronx River Parkway.

The officer, Richard Bortnowsky, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Hospital for minor neck injuries, a county police dispatcher said.

Bortnowsky had stopped another vehicle near the Bronx River Road exit when a Volkswagen Passat struck his patrol car from behind at 12:35 a.m.

Bortnowsky is a member of the department's special DUI enforcement patrol. Charges against the woman driving the Volkswagen were pending.
