...RAIN...WIND...AND MINOR COASTAL FLOODING EXPECTED LATE TODAY INTO THANKSGIVING DAY...

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST THIS MORNING WILL SLOWLY TRACK NORTH TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT...TO OFF THE DELMARVA COAST BY THANKSGIVING MORNING.

THE RAIN SHIELD AHEAD OF THE COASTAL STORM WILL OVERSPREAD LONG ISLAND...NEW YORK CITY...AND NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY THIS EVENING...AND THEN GRADUALLY WORK NORTH INTO THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY AND SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT TONIGHT.

THE PRECIPITATION MAY START AS A BRIEF PERIOD OF LIGHT FREEZING RAIN ACROSS ORANGE COUNTY IN THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY THIS EVENING...BUT WILL QUICKLY CHANGE TO PLAIN RAIN.

A WINDSWEPT RAIN IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION LATE TONIGHT CONTINUING INTO THANKSGIVING MORNING.

RAINFALL WILL BECOME MORE SHOWERY IN NATURE ON THANKSGIVING AFTERNOON... BEFORE TAPERING OFF FROM WEST TO EAST THURSDAY NIGHT AS LOW PRESSURE TRACKS EAST OF CAPE COD.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS BETWEEN ONE TO ONE AND A QUARTER INCHES ARE EXPECTED BY THE TIME THE RAIN ENDS THANKSGIVING NIGHT...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS MAY CAUSE MINOR POOR DRAINAGE AND URBAN FLOODING... ESPECIALLY WHERE LEAVES STILL CLOG DRAINS.

IN ADDITION...A TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN THE COASTAL LOW PRESSURE AND HIGH PRESSURE OVER NEW ENGLAND...WILL CAUSE NORTHEAST WINDS TO INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT.

WINDS WILL TURN TO THE NORTH AND REMAIN STRONG AT 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO 35 MPH ON THANKSGIVING DAY AS LOW PRESSURE TRACKS SOUTHEAST OF LONG ISLAND TOWARDS CAPE COD.

THESE STRONG WINDS WILL ALSO ACT TO PILE UP WATER AGAINST THE COASTLINE LATE TONIGHT INTO THANKSGIVING MORNING...PRODUCING MINOR COASTAL FLOODING FROM STATEN ISLAND TO THE SOUTH FORK OF LONG ISLAND
