NYSP conducting seatbelt crackdown

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I'm assuming the stepped-up enforcement is statewide and not just on Long Island.

I especially see too many kids either not belted or worse, in front passenger seat/not belted. Start ticketing!!!!!

FARMINGDALE, Long Island (AP)

This is fair warning. State Police say they are looking for seatbelt violations beginning today.

The seatbelt crackdown is to last through November 26th. This is a heavy travel time with families getting together for Thanksgiving.

State Police Major Walter Heesch of Troop L in Farmingdale, Long Island says there will be a zero tolerance seat belt enforcement blitz beginning today.

State Police as well as local police will have checkpoints.

State Police say one fourth of the people killed in car crashes last year could have been saved by seatbelts.

Police say of the 43-thousand people killed in the country last year in crashes, one half were not wearing seatbelts

I noticed an NYPD radio car doing what looked to be seatbelt checks on Union Turnpike off of Woodhaven Blvd in Queens this morning.
