I was talking to a guy that did the call last night, apparently the car was estamated to be doing 90-110 when the the NYSP deployed a spike strip, and the driver lost control of the vehicle striking a tree in the just before the Wallkill rest area in the w/b lane. The driver was ejected approx. 25 ft into a shallow pond. Mechanicstown FD, Maybrook FD, t/o Wallkill VAC, & Mobile Life Support were dispatched immmediatly. A medevac was placed on s/b by ALS enroute, and launched upon the arrival of Maybrook FD. The trooper was afraid to move the guy and injure him further, so he simply held his head above the water, resulting in mild hypothermia, the pt had severe internal injuries. STAT Flight Air-2 supposedly developed mechanical issues enroute, and the medic didn't want to wait for Air-1 to come from WCMC, and began transport to Orange Regional Medical Centers Horton Campus. The pt was stabilized and flown from ORMC around 11 am.
