About Traditions Training

Traditions Training is composed of fire department instructors primarily from the metropolitan Washington, DC area and from the City of New York.

The instructors come from some of the busiest and most respected fire departments in the country and will bring you knowledge and skills that cannot be found elsewhere.

The mission of Traditions Training is to teach "beyond the book" and provide knowledge and skills that will enhance your safety, effeciency, and knowledge as a firefighter. Both lecture and hands on instruction are available. Classes are customized for each customer and are available for a wide variety of topics, including (but not limited to):

Pete Lund, a founding member of Traditions Training was tragically lost in the line of duty on June 14, 2005 while operating at a house fire with the Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department on Long Island, NY.

Pete began his firefighting career in the late 1960's as a volunteer with his hometown volunteer fire department in Woodmere, NY. Pete served in many offices in Woodmere, including that of Chief for several years. In 1973, Pete began his career with the Fire Department of New York. He earned his way to the elite rescue companies, spending much of his time with Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn. After being promoted to lieutenant, Lt. Lund spent ten years with Rescue Company 3 in the Bronx before returning to his home at Rescue 2, where he remained until his retirment in 2003.

After 30 years of service in the FDNY, Pete remained an active volunteer with Woodmere. He also was a member of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department in Prince George's County, Maryland where he enjoyed fighting fire along side his son, Matt, and riding Tower 33 - which Pete always said reminded him of his "young years" at TL-120.

Lt. Lund was highly regarded by all who knew him. His endless wealth of firefighting knowledge was exceeded only by his desire to share his experiences with others. Pete was always upbeat, the first to help a brother in need, and just plain down to earth. He had phenomenal teaching and mentoring skills and no doubt inspired the careers of thousands of firefighters.

Lt. Lund was no less than a modern firefighting legend and he will not be forgotten. It is our goal to carry on Traditions Training with the values that Pete inspired us with.
