Yonkers Baby w/ intentional burns - 10-12-06

Units Operating: ESU T-3, R/C 310 (Sgt.), C.A.I.T. unit (Child Abuse Intervention Team), Detective division, CIU, Empress paramedics

Description Of Incident: ESU responded to a report of a child burned. Upon arrival found the mother holding the 1-1/2 year old child on the couch with visible severe burns to both feet and shins. Upon exposing the child from dry clothing, ESU and medics found the child to be severely burned on his entire genital area, buttocks, stomach and legs. Burn dressings were applied and the baby was rushed by ESU and Empress paramedics to Jacobi Medical Center. Enroute, citywide YPD units and NYPD 49 Pct. units closed several roads for an expedited trip to Jacobi. At Jacobi the baby was stabilized and undergoing treatment. Following further investingation by YPD CAIT unit detectives, the mother a 25 year old 9 month pregnant woman was charged with Assault 1 and her other children were removed to protective custody by CPS. Thank you to all who helped with the road closures.
