L.A. Firefighter Saves 2 Trapped From Burning Car

(CBS) ACTON

An off-duty Los Angeles city firefighter saved two people trapped in a car that was rear-ended and caught fire Friday on a freeway in Acton, authorities said.

The car was rear-ended on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway south of Pearblossom Highway just before 6 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire spokesman Capt. Mark Savage said.

The fire was so intense that no one could get the two people in the car out of the burning vehicle.

Capt. Todd Porter, who works at Los Angeles Fire Station 44 in Cypress Park, came upon the scene.

Porter donned his firefighting equipment, broke the window and got the people out.

A civilian also helped, said Ron Myers of the city fire department.

The motorists were taken to the intensive care unit of a trauma center, where they were in stable condition Friday night.
