Crews to start building new emergency center

Construction crews will soon begin moving earth and laying the foundations for Orange County's first emergency services complex in Goshen.

County Executive Ed Diana kicked off the expected 14-month building effort today with a ground-breaking ceremony at the site. The facility, which will house the E-911 call center, the emergency management office and the future medical examiner's office, will rise on a hill behind the county jail off 6 1/2 Station Road.

The project, including $3 million in renovations to the county's Fire Training Center in New Hampton, was initially expected to cost $43 million. But county officials say rising commodities costs could push its price tag up more than 10 percent.

Yes, all services are relocating. This is going to be a bigger and more advanced facility. the current facility is very small and cramped, and doesn't really allow for add'l equipment or personel. When the new center is up and running they will also take over dispatching for the OC Sheriffs Dept., and all thier booking. By the time the New Building is up and runnning the county hopes to be fully converted to the new Numbering system.
