Who Carries the Jaws?

Was just wondering which of your apparatus carries the Hurst Tool? Any Truck companies out there that have em, preferably a Tower Ladder?

In Dobbs we Have ours on our Utility, which is housed right next to the Saw Mill River Pkwy. We also have another one down on our spare engine in which the truck guys man when needed.

We carry Jaws on our 1st due Engine [2-Tanker] & of course our rescue truck [2-Rescue]. You never know what you might need on the Tappan Zee Bridge, so that's why we carry jaws on the engine.

We have four sets, two we carry on our rescue (for obvious reasons), one we carry on our squad because of it's proximity to the Merrit Parkway and one set is on our ladder tower for rescue and truck company operations.

One full setup (onboard + portable power, ML-32 spreader, O cutter, Road Runner combo tool, 1 ram, etc) on the Rescue-Engine at the second station

As of my last trip home....

Rescue 36 (Headquarters) - Full preconnected Lukas set including spreaders, cutters, rams, etc. Gas powered backup unit for the same. Port-A-Power and Rabbit tool as well.

Engine 248 (Station 2) - Gas powered Lukas Combi Tool

On order OR in the budget - Another full set of Lukas tools like Rescue 36's that will go on E-248 out of Station 2 and the Lukas Combi Tool will come back to E-247 out of Headquarters.

In Englewood Cliffs EC2 (Lance Rescue Pumper ) carries Bumper mounted combo centur) and full centur HRT'S @ rear EC-3 (the Hahn Grumman) i believe carries our older Lukas HRT'S No Jaw's carried on our tower ladder

EC 2 also has Remote power source (electric and gas )and that EC 3's Luka's are all remote powered

Rescue 18 has both an on-board Hurst power unit and a portable Hurst unit, which is used to power two spreaders, one cutter and three rams.

Engine 120 has a portable Hurst power unit which is used with a Combi-tool.

Engines 118 and 119 carry Holmatro HCT3120+ hand-powered combi-tools as well. These tools were purchased primarily for our FAST but are there if needed at a disentanglement call.

We carry one tool on Rescue28 in Station #1 Can be operated on a pre-connect or removed and used away from the vehicle. We have a second tool in Station #2 on MA 16 with a similar setup to the Rescue. Both are Gasoline powered Amkus/Lukas.

Also, Engine 110 have the Hurst tools in one of the compartments.

Mini Attack 7 had Hurst chains on them but they were taken off years ago.

we a 100 foot reel that is preconnected to a juntion box we also carry two cutters/ two speaders/ two mediam ram bars/ and one small and large ram bar and that is all run of a electric generator and we have a small gas generator that we can run two tools off of it and we also carry a full set of airbag all made by hurst

E-7: Combitool and telescopic ram w/PPU

T-1: Combitool w/ PPU

T-2: Combitool w/ PPU

R-1: Full set of large tools (spreaders and cutters), Combitool, Assorted rams, apparatus mounted electric power unit connected to dual reels, and a PPU

R-2: Full set of large tool and a PPU with two hose reels attached.

I might be off by one (T-3 might have a tool now...I'm not sure). Basically the plan was to have a tool run out of each station.

It's alot better now that when I started in 1985. We had Hurst 32a1's, "O" Cutters and rams on Unit #16 (mini-pumper / rescue) and on E-3. The one's on E-3 came from Stamford Emergency Services which was the rescue section of the old City Civil Defense.

Engine 102 and Engine 103 - Electric Hurst Simo Power Unit, which connects to two (2) one hundred fifty (150) foot lines with a Hurst Maverick (Combi-Tool) and Hurst O-Cutter pre-attached. Also carried is a medium Hurst Telescoping Ram, Glass master, two (2) step chocks and some additional cribbing for quick stabilization. Units are first due to reported rollovers.

Rescue 100 - Electric Hurst power unit which is connected to a front and rear Hurst line, one (1) gas powered Portable Hurst Power Unit, large old style Jaws, Maverick tool, O-Cutter, rams (small, medium and large), compliment of cribbing, spare Hurst lines and other assorted equipment. Unit is first due to reported vehicle rescues both in district and out of district.

Now here's the trick? how many people assigned to each rescue/truck/engine know the capabilities, limits, and user maintenance of all the tools.

I would have trouble answering all of these questions. Its nice to have the equipment at hand, but unless you can use it, it does no good..
