Small PD's With Dodge Charger Hemi's

5 posts in this topic

I think ALL the chargers are sweet . But why do smaller municipalities need them? as i said it is a nice ride but for such as small municipality, isnt it overkill. i thinks its more dangerous for them to have and race around the side streets. look i dont want to start any hostility, but seriously justify a small pd having a need for a HEMI? As I said its overkill( in my opion) yeah State police, County Pd or any major city these are great cars. but for a small town i think having a pwerful hemi is no good. well thats my 2 cents .

I want to know what NYPD is going to do with them on the streets of Manahttan??? I'm sure they will let Highway test them, but what will they do with a Hemi in Midtown???

Bronxville's is a radar/DWI car. They used to have a Crown Vic. Just FYI, Tuckahoe just got one as well, but it is a regular patrol unit.

Perhaps the appeal is (other then that they are new) when hiding, people won't realize it's PD.

Depends on the agency's pursuit policy. NYPD has a very, and I mean very RESTRICTIVE policy on pursuits. It can be called off by the police officer, the Patrol Supervisor (SGT or LT), or the dispatcher. NYPD limits pursuits to two RMPS and patrol supervisor wink.gif , no vans, scooters, or motorcycles(which can start in a pursuit, but must stop when ever a car joins in. Pursuits are also limited to serious felonies..usually invovling shots fired at an officer, or a threat to a life. Remember, the Crown Vic(Police Interceptor) and the Impala are both capable of speeds over 100 mph. The Charger's big draw with the Hemi is a quicker 0 to 60 time. Comissioner Kelly's reasoning is to prevent a large portion of the fleet to be down due to recalls. Only car with any room in the back seat with a cage in place is the Crown Vic. The 2007 Impala has no room at all(I'm 5'8" and its a very tight fit)

PS, only Highway got the Hemi, precints got the V6
